Free, fun, and fabulous

Robert Kaufman Fabrics’ website offers several free patterns (sorry, you will have to click on each project to see if a free pattern is offered). One freebie we love is the Color Beach Tote, the perfect bag for hauling your books and blankets (and let’s not forget the snacks) to the beach this summer, and for hauling your quilting stuff the rest of the year.

One gem on this site is the cute quilted patchwork jacket that uses a sweatshirt as the base. You’ll find free instructions, as well as a video clip of the finished jacket. The instructions are a bit chopped up on the webpage because there are some ads in the middle of the text, but the finished project would make a perfect fall lightweight jacket.

Check out Heather Bailey’s website for her adorable free Bitty Booties™ pattern for your favorite little one. Heather features several other fun, free project sheets, along with her wonderful line of fabrics. Plus, her website is full of stunning photography.

The website for McCall’s Quilting Magazine features lots of great free stuff, from lessons to quilt patterns.

Free patterns for all kinds of sewing and quilting projects from Marcus Fabrics. Projects include quilts and wall hangings, home decorating items, gifts to make and fashion accessories.

This is the ultimate site for free downloadable machine embroidery patterns. This site also has several nice paper piecing patterns that you can download as well.

Mary Corbet’s beautiful website has lots of great links to other embroidery sites, plus an online video tutorial showing exactly how to make certain stitches. Nice job, Mary!

I love Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville website and lost myself for hours, looking at all her great stuff. In addition to lots of free patterns and clearly written instructions, I love-love-love her pointers on managing your scraps and your stash. You’ll find this info in her Tips and Techniques section. Bonnie also has lots of great strip-piecing quilts tips and patterns, many of which are perfect for charity projects.

Debby Kratovil’s website where she offers 34 free lessons and patterns to help you with your quilting.

Don’t miss Alex Anderson’s on-line quilt block exchange, many with piecing and pressing instructions.

From quilt artist Diane Phalen, free screensavers of her beautiful artwork for your computer. Each screensaver contains 10 of Diane’s classic images, and there are three screen savers to choose from.

Fun, free project patterns for everything from appliqué and pieced quilt patterns to fun sewing projects. Check out the elted wool sewing caddy by Roseann Meehan Kermes. It’s just too darn cute and easy!
